The SEC West is not know for its quarterbacks, but Ole Miss football’s Shea Patterson is making a name for himself rather quickly.

If the Ole Miss Rebels were bowl eligible in 2017, then their 2-0 start might be getting a little bit of national recognition. Sophomore quarterback Shea Patterson has put up video game-like numbers through his first two games of the 2017 campaign.

Patterson threw for 489 yards and five touchdowns in Week 2 against UT-Martin. That now puts him at nearly 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns thrown this year. He has been one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the country and it looks like few defenses will be able to contain him.

Even with Ole Miss having so much talent gone from last year. They seem to have found a way to recover. Sophomore receiver A.J. Brown has already caught 16 passes for 389 yards and four touchdowns.

The type of numbers that Brown and Patterson are putting up this year should at least be getting more national attention. Both players are NFL level talents and will be playing on Sundays before too long. Any quarterback who throws for 918 yards in his first two games as a sophomore likely has a promising career in front of him.

Interim head coach Matt Luke is making a case for Ole Miss to sign him permanently. If he keeps fueling production like this from the Rebel offense, it would be hard not to. Patterson is also making it easy for Luke to look good.

The SEC West is a tough division to play in this year. The Alabama Crimson Tide are going to tough to dethrone. LSU, Auburn, and Mississippi State all look very strong as well. Ole Miss is a team that can upset some teams and play the role of spoiler this year. This could be a very fun year to watch Patterson and the Rebels throughout the regular season.
