Boise State football: 3 bold predictions for the New Mexico game
By Zach Bigalke
In 2016, Boise State dominated New Mexico in Albuquerque. Here are 3 bold predictions for how the Week 3 game will transpire between the Broncos and Lobos.
The meeting between Boise State and New Mexico was a tale of two distinctly different playing styles. On their home turf, the Lobos rushed for 382 yards. But New Mexico quarterback Lamar Jordan managed just 39 passing yards. On the other sideline, Brett Rypien was airing it out in Albuquerque as he finished with 391 yards and five passing touchdowns in a 49-21 blowout victory.
But Jeremy McNichols, now in the NFL with Tampa Bay, managed just 54 rushing yards on 21 carries. New Mexico’s loss and Boise State’s win ultimately meant little, though. By the end of the season, the Lobos and Broncos finished in a three-way tie with Wyoming for the divisional crown in the MWC Mountain. Both UNM and Boise State were shut out of the conference championship, as Wyoming got the nod to play San Diego State.
Both teams enter Week 3 reeling from losses. Boise State went to Pullman on Saturday night and coughed up a 31-10 lead in the fourth quarter. Washington State forced extra time, and Bryan Harsin‘s team ultimately fell 47-44 in triple overtime. Meanwhile, in Albuquerque the Lobos ended up losing to state rival New Mexico State in a 30-28 upset.
