Boise State football: 3 bold predictions for the New Mexico game
By Zach Bigalke
2. Cedric Wilson will top 150 receiving yards and score at least once
Montell Cozart has showcased a strong ability to run the ball, and that is part of the reason why the coaches will turn to him as the starter. But after a full week of working with the first-team offense, Cozart will also feel much more confident throwing the ball. He has a big-play receiver in Cedrick Wilson, and the two will click against a New Mexico defense susceptible to getting beat through the air.
The Lobos have shown an ability to contain teams on the ground. But against FCS Abilene Christian they gave up 274 yards and two touchdowns in the air. Then Aggies quarterback Tyler Rogers threw for 401 yards and four touchdowns to pace New Mexico State to victory in the Rio Grande Rivalry.
Last year the New Mexico game was Brett Rypien’s best game of the season. Completing 21 of his 28 attempts, Rypien threw for 391 yards and five touchdowns against the Lobos. Thomas Sperbeck caught nine passes for 198 yards and two scores. Cedric Wilson also snagged two touchdown passes as he finished with nine receptions for 167 yards.
This year, Wilson will once again top 150 receiving yards as he becomes more familiar with Cozart. The Lobos secondary could once again give up over 400 passing yards, and Wilson will lead the way for Boise State and live up to his billing as the Broncos’ top receiver.
