Big 12 Football 2017: 5 teams on upset alert in Week 3
There’s some good Big 12 football action in Week 3, including five teams that could be put on upset alert against quality opposition.
There might not have been another conference that made a bigger statement in Week 2 than the Big 12. With the Oklahoma Sooners defeat of the Ohio State Buckeyes, the conference established itself as a real force to be reckoned with in 2017.
Four of the 10 teams in the conference are ranked in the AP Poll. Two of the other members, the West Virginia Mountaineers and Texas Tech Red Raiders, received votes. The Sooners, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Kansas State Wildcats and TCU Horned Frogs could all make a legitimate push at both the conference title and College Football Playoff, something the Big 12 desperately needs.
Only one team from the Big 12 faces another ranked team this week. The Texas Longhorns take on the No. 4 USC Trojans after getting back on track in a dominant 56-point win over the San Jose State Spartans. The Horns are hoping they can overcome another team from the “Golden State” this week.
Seven of the 10 teams in the conference are actually favored in Week 3, which means that three of them cannot be put on upset alert. The Baylor Bears are a 14-point underdog against the Duke Blue Devils. Texas is a 16.5-point underdog to USC. And, the Kansas Jayhawks are a 7.5-point underdog to the Ohio Bobcats. Of all those teams, the Jayhawks would be most likely to overcome the spread. Baylor and Texas might struggle against the opposition.
Now, let’s take a look at five Big 12 teams on upset alert in Week 3 of the 2017 college football season.
