Texas A&M Football: 3 reasons the 2-quarterback system won’t work
3. No SEC team has had any luck with it this year
Look at the Florida Gators. They had a quarterback battle heading into the season between Feleipe Franks, Malik Zaire, and Luke del Rio. Franks has ultimately taken the most snaps but fans question whether he should be the starter each week.
Florida went into their season opener against the Michigan Wolverines without a set in stone starter and they ended up losing 33-17. Texas A&M was not able to come away with a convincing victory yet using more than one quarterback in a game.
Look at the Tennessee Volunteers. They had a quarterback battle entering the season and decided to go with the more experienced option with Quintin Dormady. While true freshman Jarrett Guarantano might be the future at the position for the Vols, Dormady is their best option right now and they’re currently undefeated.
Texas A&M needs to find a set in stone starter and keep it that way. Last year, they found success under Oklahoma transfer Trevor Knight until he got injured. Whenever the Aggie have found themselves a starting quarterback for any extended period of time, it generally works out well.
