Virginia Tech football hits the road to face the East Carolina Pirates this week. Here’s a look at some bold predictions for the game.

The 16th-ranked Virginia Tech Hokies (2-0) face the usually competitive East Carolina Pirates (0-2), although this year’s meeting could end up a lot like last years.

Virginia Tech football looks ready to turn a corner with redshirt freshman quarterback Josh Jackson under center. Last week, Jackson got his first taste of football in Lane Stadium, this week is a road test of sorts.

The Hokies haven’t won at East Carolina since 2013 back when the Pirates beat Virginia Tech 35-28 the last time they visited. However, it’s a new day for both teams as they each have a new head coach and a new system in place.

The Virginia Tech offense made its strides last week but 27 points against Delaware is easy. They’ve got the talent to be good, but the experience is still getting there.

Defense is the Virginia Tech football team’s strong suit. Their defense has allowed 12.0 points per game, 23rd in the FBS. They didn’t allow any points last week and have a chance to do the same thing this week.

The Pirates have lost their first two games to start the season. They lost at home to FCS powerhouse James Madison 34-14 in their season opener. Then the West Virginia Mountaineers ran over them, 56-20, last week.
