ACC Football: 5 teams on upset alert in Week 3
Highlighted by the Clemson-Louisville game, the ACC football slate on tap for this weekend is nothing short of tremendous.
ESPN’s College Gameday is headed to an ACC match this week when the No. 14 Louisville Cardinals take on the No. 3 ranked Clemson Tigers. However, the ACC is still fighting to maintain their title as the top conference in college football.
The Florida State Seminoles losing star quarterback Deondre Francois for the season still hurts and Clemson is taking the reigns as the highest-ranked team in the conference once again. This week has only one matchup between two ACC opponents, and that’s Clemson and Louisville.
One other ACC team faces a top 25 team as the Pittsburgh Panthers host the No. 9 Oklahoma State Cowboys. Moreover, two more teams face Power Five competition outside of the ACC. The Boston College Eagles host the Notre Dame Fighting Irish one week after getting dominated by the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. And, the Duke Blue Devils host the sorry Baylor Bears after dominating the Northwestern Wildcats to a surprising 41-17 outcome in Week 2.
Beside the Clemson-Louisville game, this is largely a down week in terms of ACC competition. As long as none of the major favorites in the conference get upset, it’s mostly a time for quality teams to build up momentum entering conference play.
Last week, only two ACC teams that were favored ended up losing, and one of those was to another conference member. BC was downed by Wake Forest and Syracuse lost to Middle Tennessee.
Now, let’s take a look at five ACC teams on upset alert in Week 3 of the 2017 college football season.
