1. New Mexico is doing fine through controversy

One of the bigger headlines of the week came from the New Mexico football program. Head coach Bob Davie is now involved with a scandal regarding a player abuse investigation. However, his team still fought very hard and hung tough for three quarters.

If not for the injury to Lamar Jordan, this game might have garnered a very different result. It took Boise State until early in the fourth quarter to finally seal the two possession victory. There were some very encouraging signs for the Lobos.

Holding a dynamic ground attack like Boise State’s to less than 5.0 yards per carry is a major accomplishment. And, the leading rusher for the Broncos outside of Montell Cozart came from starting running back Ryan Wolpin who was held under 50 yards.

New Mexico won their first division title since 1997 last year. The program finally started trending in the right direction and this investigation is a worrying sign. However, knowing that they’re still holding strong, as a team, right now gives hope to Lobo fans that a division title and bowl appearance and bowl game are still in sight in 2017.
