42. USC. 2. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. QB. Sam Darnold

Yet another season with quarterbacks being rumored to San Francisco. The 49ers did end up drafting C.J. Beathard out of Iowa in the middle rounds of the 2017 draft, but chances are he’s not going to be the future of the organization.

The team hasn’t had good quarterback play in years and you could argue that it goes all the way back to Colin Kaepernick’s breakout season with the team. Since then, it’s been spotty play, at best, which holds the entire team back.

While Brian Hoyer has taken over in a veteran’s role this season, he’s basically just a hold-me-over until 2018. That’s where Sam Darnold comes in. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound gunslinger out of USC will likely be the best prospect in the 2018 class, assuming he decides to leave early.

Darnold is an accurate passer with all the tools to be successful. While some scouts will knock his long throwing motion, which has led to multiple fumbles, you can’t discount his accuracy. Not to mention, he’d be staying in his home state for all three levels of football. Can he make the 49ers relevant again?
