Washington football hosts Fresno State this weekend as they try to move to 3-0 on the season. What should the Huskies’ fans be looking out for?
Very possibly the most under-the-radar top ten team right now, Washington has one last non-conference test on the slate before the enter Pac-12 play. They’ll be hosting Fresno State, who have thus far looked improved from a dreadful 1-11 campaign in 2016.
Improved enough to hang with the Huskies? Almost certainly not, but it’ll be a worthwhile gauge for UW to assess their strengths and weaknesses before the conference season begins.
Here are three bold predictions on how we see the game shaking out on Saturday.
3. Washington has the game in hand by the first quarter
In the Huskies’ opener against Rutgers, they entered halftime with a shockingly slim 10-7 lead. The next week against Montana, UW needed a punt return touchdown from Dante Pettis in the closing seconds of the first quarter to push their lead to two touchdowns. Washington, of course, wound up winning both games by a combined score of 93-21.
They haven’t been razor-sharp out of the gates, and that’s something that will need to change by the beginning of Pac-12 play if the Huskies are to successfully defend their conference title. Expect Jake Browning and company to come out with guns blazing on Saturday evening, and, in turn, for the game to be largely done and dusted after a single quarter.
