2. Ross Bowers throws three touchdown passes

The two sophomore quarterbacks facing off in this game are both extremely talented. Ross Bowers takes over after two very good quarterbacks for Cal. Texas Tech transfer Davis Webb played at Cal for just one year following the end of the Jared Goff-era.

Now, it’s Bowers’ turn to take the reigns for the offense, and he has not disappointed so far. Making a bowl game is a big accomplishment for the Golden Bears most years. This is one of those years that they have the opportunity to win seven or more games.

For that to happen, Bowers needs to step up in big games like this. He’ll have to dual with Patterson and meet him every step of the way. Bowers threw four touchdown passes against UNC but was held out of the end zone last week against Weber State.

Junior running back Patrick Laird played great against Weber State with 191 rushing yards and three touchdowns. The focus should turn back to Bowers as Cal will have to keep pace with the Ole Miss offense.
