3. Nicholls State hangover

Watching the final seconds tick off the clock in the victory over Nicholls State was probably the most relieved any of these players had been in their college careers. Sure, they’ve had bigger wins against tougher opponents, but putting away Nicholls after a serious upset bid came with a major sight of relief.

Texas A&M didn’t have to worry about reading headlines the following Monday about “the biggest upset” of the year. Baylor dominated those headlines by losing to a couple of “cupcakes” to begin the season, so Aggie fans didn’t have to worry too much.

Still, it’s in the back of everyone’s mind that the Aggies were very close to losing to an FCS foe on their home field. That’s not something that goes away instantly. The players know they played poorly, the coaches know they didn’t execute the game plan as expect and that could carry over into this week.

We hear about teams having hangovers after big wins, but there are also hangovers after crushing losses or near-upsets. This could either motivate the Aggies to have a torrid finish to the month of September or they will just come out flat once again vs. Louisiana.
