After defeating Boise State in overtime in Week 2, Washington State football must turn their eyes to Oregon State. Here are 3 bold predictions for Week 3.
Washington State’s week two game against Boise State was definitely one of the most interesting games of the college football season thus far. After failing to move the ball for much of the game, head coach Mike Leach’s squad climbed back from a 21-point deficit with only ten minutes to go behind the arm of backup quarterback Tyler Hilinski.
After tying the game up with only a minute to go, the Cougars pulled out a victory in the wee hours of the morning after scoring the game winning touchdown in triple overtime. This performance has, for the time being, has kept the Cougar’s Pac-12 championship hopes, and undefeated streak, alive for another week.
Could the Cougar’s first conference game of the year against Oregon State change their luck? The Beavers struggled mightily in 2016, winning only four games, and missing out on a bowl game for the third consecutive season in a row. The 2017 season doesn’t look like it’s going to be much better in Corvallis. The team currently holds a 1-2 record, with their only win of the season coming off of a 3-point win against FCS opponent, Portland State.
In the Cougar’s third consecutive home game of the season, Mike Leach’s squad will be facing off against the 95th ranked offense in the country, and the 115th ranked defense. This game looks like an ideal match-up for the Cougar’s coaching staff to iron out the team’s kinks before their Sept. 29 game against the No. 4 USC Trojans.
With that in mind here are thee things to watch for in the Washington State Cougar’s Week 3 game against the Oregon State Beavers.
