The Mississippi State Bulldogs were absolutely dominant in their win over LSU football on Saturday in Starkville, pulling off the huge upset.
The LSU Tigers were heavily favored coming into the biggest SEC matchup of the year to date. Most, including myself, were sure that Derrius Guice and the Tigers were a lock to win. However, Mississippi State wasn’t cool with that. And they showed that clear as day on Saturday night.
Mississippi State handed LSU its first loss of the season and it wasn’t a pretty one at all. The Tigers struggled to get a passing attack going and their running game couldn’t sustain much against the Bulldog defense. Derrius Guice, try as hard as he did, couldn’t carry the entire team on his back. He just couldn’t.
The bulk of SEC West play is a test to see who can hang around with Alabama. The Bulldogs may have just shown that they could be that team. Now, it may be too early to say things like that, but as things stand right now I could see it.
All things aside, the Bulldogs came out victorious in Starkville and we learned a bit about each of the teams that took the field on Saturday night. We may not have decided who is a contender and who isn’t, but let’s just say that the Tigers have a lot of work to do if they want to contend for a title. Now, here are my three takeaways from the biggest SEC matchup of the year so far.
