3. Baylor might be lucky to win two games this season

The fact that a two-touchdown loss to Duke was by far Baylor’s best performance of the season really speaks to how awful the Bears have been so far. That’s not a knock on Matt Rhule, who really and truly may have inherited the hardest situation in college football right now. It’s just that the short-term is looking really, really bleak for the Bears.

Baylor’s gone oh-for-three on their very, very cushy non-conference schedule, and will enter conference play (in a much-improved Big 12, mind you) next weekend against second-ranked Oklahoma. Will Baylor be favored in a single game? We’ll give them the edge over Kansas, for now, and it’s not difficult to see them topping Texas Tech or Iowa State… but a winless season is very much on the table.

Next: Is Matt Rhule already on the hot seat?

Still, that’s not the main issue at hand for Rhule. His job, first and foremost, is to rebuild this program and its culture from the ground up. Right now, the wins and losses don’t matter half as much as that.
