Ohio State Football: 3 takeaways from Buckeyes’ victory over Army
3. The Ohio State defense continues to grow as a unit
The Ohio State Buckeyes defense was without linebacker Chris Worley, who suffered an injury in the game and didn’t return but they still bounced back. They gave up one big scoring drive in the second quarter, but other than that, they stood tall as a unit.
The Buckeyes defense only allowed seven points, forced a fumble and allowed Army to complete just two passes in the game. The Black Knights finished with 19 passing yards in the game.
Redshirt freshman Tuf Borland stepped up big with 12 tackles in place of the injured Worley. Borland could see more action as this team still searches for a big pressure guy up front.
The Buckeyes didn’t have any sacks, given Army ran the Triple Option, but they did well to keep their offense limited in the run game. They allowed a touchdown in the second quarter and didn’t let them score again, also forcing a missed field goal in the third quarter.
The secondary wasn’t tested much but it was a good sign to see safety Damon Webb have nine tackles in the game. Webb stepped up as the team’s second-leading tackler.
