49 – Unanswered points from the Sooners

Ohio State found this out in Week 2. Tulane had to learn it the hard way, through experience. This Oklahoma team can absolutely bury you and they do it through an effective offense and a stingy defense.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Sooners held the Green Wave to 4-of-13 on third down. It didn’t matter which of Tulane’s various ball carriers was touting the rock, Oklahoma flew to the football and brought them down. The six punt forced by Oklahoma gave the offense the ball. Oklahoma didn’t waste their opportunities to score.

The Sooner offense, led by Baker Mayfield moved at ease through the Green Wave defense. They had a balance offense and were able to pick and choose how and where they were going to attack the defense. Eight different Sooners had at least one carry and eight different receivers had at least one reception.

Their defense, combined with an offense that could attack you on the ground and through the air, enabled Oklahoma to make a 14-14 first quarter score and turn it into a 35-14 advantage entering the fourth quarter.
