14.5 – yards per Oklahoma pass

This is not a team that’s going to nickel and dime its way down the field. Baker Mayfield, despite a curious lack of interest as a prospect in the upcoming NFL Draft, has a strong arm and a proven track record of finding receivers down the field.

Many wondered how the Oklahoma passing attack would fair with star receiver Dede Westbrook now playing in the NFL. Through the first three games it doesn’t seem to have missed a beat. Thanks to the Sooners, Ohio State entered the weekend with the worst passing defense in the country. Are the Buckeyes that bad against the pass? Probably not, but that makes the Sooners all the more deadly through the air.

The Big 12 is known for their aerial attacks. It’s going to be fun to watch Mayfield duel with Oklahoma State gunslinger Mason Rudolph at least once, if not twice this season.

Mayfield isn’t waiting until Bedlam to turn on the deep ball. He completed 17-of-27 passes for 331 yards and four touchdowns against Tulane on Saturday. A completion percentage of 63 percent would be decent if you weren’t aiming for the endzone, but Mayfield manages to keep that number up while still moving the ball down the field with ease. The Sooners were 4-of-7 on third down.
