With a contest against Oklahoma State looming, TCU football bested SMU in a shootout in Week 3. What did we learn from the Horned Frog victory?

After steamrolling their first two opponents of the season, Gary Patterson’s TCU Horned Frogs found themselves in an absolute shootout in their Week 3 bout with the SMU Mustangs.

Only separated by 37 miles, TCU and SMU have been competing for the Iron Skillet since 1915. 17 of the last 20 meetings have gone TCU’s way.

The Frogs finish the game with four passing touchdowns, three rushing touchdowns, a special teams score and an pick six. That’s an incredibly impressive feat. It’s one that the AP Poll will surely have to take into consideration come Sunday.

After dredging through a largely inconsistent first quarter, the Patterson’s team came alive in the second quarter. They outscored Chad Morris’ SMU squad by a score of 42 to 17 over the final 45 minutes of regulation.

Here are three things we learned in TCU’s rousing 56-36 victory over the SMU Mustangs.
