B+. . QB. Texas A&M. QUARTERBACK

With senior quarterback Jake Hubenak out with a shoulder injury, the Aggie offense was left in the hands of a true freshman in Kellen Mond. Since Mond struggled so much in the first two weeks after redshirt freshman Nick Starkel‘s injury, an upset was possible.

The progression of Mond was one of the biggest goals for the Texas A&M offense moving forward. We got to see the improvement of Mond on the field this week. He threw for more than 300 yards and three touchdowns with only one interception.

There were a few decisions that Mond made that were a bit puzzling. However, that is still going to frequently happen as the true freshman continues to gain more experience. The fact that he made only a few mistakes and helped the Aggies win the turnover battle is a great sign.

Kevin Sumlin planned to use both Hubenak and Mond this week. Hubenak could still get a shot in Texas A&M’s next game. He could still be the best option, but we saw some very encouraging signs from Mond in this game.
