UCLA football has found itself in a dogfight with the Memphis Tigers. The Tigers lead UCLA 27-24 at the half.

Memphis came out on fire behind an 80-yard run from Darrell Henderson that set Memphis up in the redzone. Quarterback Riley Ferguson then connected with tight end Joey Magnifico (great name) to open up scoring for the game. That got the scoring going and let UCLA know that this game was not going to be a cakewalk for the Bruins.

UCLA and quarterback Josh Rosen responded, and even had a 17-7 lead a couple minutes into the second quarter. Then Memphis got things going on offense once again. Their next two scores came off of two of the best screen plays i’ve ever seen. Both screens went for 40 plus yards. Needless to say the offense is out in force for both teams today. Only blemish in scoring for Memphis was a missed extra point.

The Memphis defense has been better than I would have thought for this matchup. Rosen and company have had to work for points in this game. UCLA also hasn’t been able to establish much of an identity in the run game.

For UCLA to come out and win this game they have to keep wearing down the Memphis defense. The Tigers had been holding their own till late in the second quarter when they began to get gashed a bit in the run game.

If UCLA is able to add that extra dimension, they’ll have a greater shot at coming out the victor. As of now however, Memphis looks hot and their offense hasn’t been stopped at all in this game. Head coach Mike Norvell is calling a heck of a game. It’ll be up to the UCLA defense to adjust in the second half.

Tune in for the second half of this game because it looks like it’ll be a great finish between the Bruins and Tigers.
