Virginia Tech Football: Takeaways from win over ECU
The Virginia Tech football program looks ready to go in head coach Justin Fuente‘s second year with the team as they get off to a 3-0 start.
It took the No. 16 Virginia Tech Hokies a little while, but they ended up pulling away from the East Carolina Pirates and coming away with an extremely dominant victory. ECU hung with them through most of the first half but tailed off in the second.
The points never seemed to stop coming for the Hokies in the second half. Virginia Tech put up 34 points in the third quarter. They put up more than 50 points in the second and third quarters combined. ECU’s defense had trouble staying with the Virginia Tech receivers for the entire game.
Head coach Justin Fuente has his team primed and ready for a run for the ACC Championship this year after falling one possession short to the defending National Champion Clemson Tigers last year. They should be the favorite to win the ACC Coastal division over the Miami Hurricanes and Duke Blue Devils.
ECU seemed to be in great shape as quarterback Gardner Minshew got his first start of the season over former Duke transfer Thomas Sirk. Minshew finished with two touchdowns and one interception but he completed less than half of his passes.
Virginia Tech ended up beating ECU by a final score of 64-17. It was even worse for the Pirates than last week when they lost to West Virginia by a 36-point margin. Head coach Scottie Montgomery has some work to do or else his seat could start heating up very soon.
Now, let’s take a look at three takeaways from Virginia Tech’s Week 3 win over the ECU Pirates.
