West Virginia football topped Delaware State 59-16 on Saturday to move to 2-1. What can we take away from WVU’s blowout victory?

West Virginia football rolled as expected on Saturday afternoon, trouncing FCS foe Delaware State in a game that was never particularly close.

While it’s difficult to draw too many conclusions from a game against an overmatched foe, here are the three biggest lessons we learned about the Mountaineers from their third game of the season.

3. Mountaineers fans shouldn’t worry about team’s focus

While a number of Top 25-caliber teams have struggled early against inferior competition, West Virginia has responded admirably from an opening-week heartbreaker against Virginia Tech.

Sure, East Carolina and Delaware State are far from top-tier opponents, but the Mountaineers have been clinical in both games from the opening snap. Will Grier and company have outscored ECU and DSU by a combined score of 45-13.

This should give WVU fans plenty of confidence against the lower ends of their schedule. We’ve seen that even the cellar-dwellers of the Big 12 are capable of pulling upsets on occasion (ahem, Kansas), so the Mountaineers can’t afford to take an off week no matter who the opponent is.

And hey, guess who West Virginia opens up conference play against? If the last two weeks are anything to go by, this team will be tuned in and won’t be taking the Jayhawks lightly.
