1. This team will be back in the top 25, and soon

That’s not necessarily a statement on the Mountaineers’ quality — though rest assured, they’ve looked quite good — but more on their iffy schedule.

Two straight dominating wins have put WVU at 2-1, and it’s hard to see them struggling much with Kansas next weekend either. The next three games after that include a road trip to TCU (tough!), Texas Tech at home (very winnable) and Baylor on the road (lol Baylor).

There’s a lot of potential for a gaudy record with that schedule, with 5-2 looking like a worst case scenario. That’ll definitely propel the Mountaineers back into the rankings, and will give them a chance to contend for a Big 12 title down the stretch.

Are they good enough to knock off one of the Oklahoma schools and really jump headfirst into the title race? That remains to be seen; we’ll need to take stock after West Virginia plays a few more Power Five opponents. But by any measure, they’re looking very dangerous.
