Texas Football: 3 reasons the Longhorns are toast after the USC loss
3. Texas will struggle against unranked Big 12 teams
The Horns lost to the Kansas Jayhawks last year, giving them their only Big 12 victory of the season. The signs show from the Texas loss to the Maryland Terrapins in Week 1 show that the Longhorns are still prone to losing to inferior opponents.
Some of the teams in the Big 12 that are currently or are about to be unranked include the West Virginia Mountaineers, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Kansas State Wildcats, all of which could easily defeat Texas.
Any team that loses to Kansas in conference play can really lose to any team at any time. Herman saw his talented Houston squad lose four games last year when they were expected to contend for the Playoff at one point.
The non-conference slate wrapped up with USC. Texas has a bye week then they take on a grueling schedule including Kansas State, TCU, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State matchups in four of five consecutive weeks.
