2. Ole Miss has best receiving corps in SEC

When you have a quarterback like Shea Patterson throwing you the ball, it’s easy to look good. Just ask Ole Miss’ receiving corps this year. While the quarterback isn’t exactly the best in the conference, he’s growing into a top-level passer.

Even with a lackluster showing at Cal, his receivers took full advantage of a pass-heavy offense and looked like the best unit in the SEC. After watching their performance against the Golden Bears, fans were quick to pull the “best receiving corps in the SEC” card.

It’s too early for that. While guys like A.J. Brown, DaMarkus Lodge, D.K. Metcalf and Van Jefferson are playing better than most receivers in the SEC, they have also played minimal competition. Cal isn’t exactly known for its defense and neither UT-Martin nor South Alabama put up major fights defensively.

There is potential for the Rebel receiving corps to be the best in the conference, but it needs to show it can put up these same numbers against teams like Alabama, Auburn and LSU. The talent is surely there, though.
