Week 3 of SEC football gave us some looks at surprising teams like Mississippi State and Vanderbilt. As well as one of the best endings in a football game you’ll ever see. Here are our SEC power rankings as we head into Week 4.

The best game of the weekend was the Tennessee-Florida matchup down in the swamp. But let’s be honest, it was really only the best game in the fourth quarter. The entire game beforehand had been nothing but a field goal snooze fest. The Gators and the Volunteers combined for nine points through three quarters. Then they scored a combined 37, all in the fourth quarter. Florida won as the clock ran out on a 63 yard hail mary toss from Feleipe Franks to Tyrie Cleveland. It looked as if we were set for overtime but the Gators went for the win and they got it.

The biggest surprise of this week was the thorough domination in Starkville of LSU by Mississippi State. The Bulldogs took it to LSU all night. Nick Fitzgerald was solid and the Tigers never had an answer for him. The Bulldogs defense proved it is up to the task of facing conference competition. My only concern is whether Mississippi State is actually this good or if LSU is just not who we though they were? Time will tell.

It was also good to see Vanderbilt get a huge win at home over the Kansas State Wildcats. The win was Vanderbilt’s first over a ranked non-conference opponent since 1946. Head coach Derek Mason has had treaded some tough waters in his time in Nashville, but he has the Commodores on the upswing. Boy is that defense stout.

Let’s dive into this week’s power rankings, beginning with number 14, Missouri.
