Boise State Football: 3 bold predictions for Virginia game
By Zach Bigalke
3. Both quarterbacks will play for Boise State
A cold start to the year by Brett Rypien, coupled with an injury against Washington State, opened the door for Montell Cozart to get his chance at quarterback. The Kansas graduate transfer seized his chance, displaying the dual-threat ability that makes him an attractive change of pace from the less-mobile Rypien. Cozart currently leads the team in rushing, and he will likely get the start once again when Virginia comes to town Friday night.
But Cozart probably won’t play the whole game, as Rypien has been practicing this week and should be healthy enough to suit up for the weekday tilt. Cozart will take the bench at some point in the third quarter after getting a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown. Once Rypien returns to the field, he will remind folks of what he did against the Cavaliers two years ago.
In the course of a three or four drives, Rypien will throw for over 150 yards and complete two touchdown passes. His effort will help the Broncos pull away from their visitors on the scoreboard. Any semblance of a quarterback controversy will evaporate once Rypien returns to full form, though Cozart will continue to see playing time as well.
