Notre Dame Football: Josh Adams can shred Michigan State’s defense
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish hit the road to take on the Michigan State Spartans in East Lansing this weekend and Josh Adams will play a huge role.
Notre Dame responded to a one-point loss to the Georgia Bulldogs in Week 2 by blasting the Boston College Eagles last weekend. Junior quarterback Brandon Wimbush had a record-breaking game while rushing for 207 yards and four touchdowns. Star running back Josh Adams added another 229 yards on 18 carries.
One of the worst games of Adams’ career came against the Michigan State Spartans in a 36-28 loss last year. Adams only rushed for 29 yards on 12 carries. Stanford was the only opponent to hold Adams to under 30 yards since the beginning of the 2016 campaign beside Michigan State.
This is a Notre Dame rushing attack that is one of its best in the last decade. Wimbush and Adams combined for 436 rushing yards against a respectable BC run defense last week and could do much of the same moving forward.
Not only will Adams be motivated to prove he can perform well against Michigan State after a sub-par effort last season, he will look to continue his hot streak. Georgia was the only team to hold Adams in check through three games this year.
Michigan State has not faced a quality ground game yet this year. Their secondary has been tested much more than the front seven. Western Michigan and Bowling Green were forced to throw the ball due to early deficits.
Moreover, Michigan State sophomore quarterback Brian Lewerke is a dual-threat that gives the offense another dynamic. If Notre Dame wants to control the clock, Wimbush and Adams need to continue the efficient performance they had against BC.

Adams averaged more than 12.0 yards per carry last weekend. Considering the 7.9 yards per carry and 443 rushing yards he’s compiled this year, he’ll be more than ready to gash the Michigan State front seven in Week 4.
