Last Saturday started with UCLA’s upset loss at the Liberty Bowl against American Athletic Conference contender Memphis. It ended with Stanford’s upset loss at Qualcomm Stadium against Mountain West contender San Diego State. The respective losses against Group of Five opponents leave the Bruins and Cardinal hoping to rebound quickly.
For Stanford, it was actually their second straight loss after falling in Week 2 to USC in Los Angeles. David Shaw‘s team is in danger of falling completely off the rails and desperately needs to secure victory in its first home game of the season.
When the two teams met last year at the Rose Bowl, UCLA was the victim of a comeback defeat. The Bruins, up 10-3 at halftime in Pasadena, still held the lead late in the fourth quarter. But a pair of Stanford touchdowns in the final 30 seconds of the game turned around the scoreline to give the Cardinal a 22-13 victory.
Given the way these two teams have played so far in 2017, there should be a lot more scoring than 35 total points that went on the scoreboard last season. How will things unfold at Stanford Stadium on Saturday night? Keep reading for three bold predictions for the #Pac12AfterDark duel in the Bay Area between UCLA and Stanford.
