UCLA Football: 5 reasons the Bruins will beat Stanford
4. Keller Chryst trending in the wrong direction
Since the first game of the season against Rice, Keller Chryst’s production has been steadily declining. He looked solid in the opener, but then again, Rice isn’t exactly the stiffest of competition. He finished with 253 yards and two touchdowns while completing just 58 percent of his throws.
The following game against USC didn’t go quite as well as he passed for 172 yards and two touchdowns and completed only 54 percent of his passes. Then the San Diego State game happened. It was easily the worst performance of Chryst’s young career as a starter. He passed for 72 yards and threw two interceptions with no touchdowns on 9-of-20 completions.
Although UCLA’s defense was just torched by Memphis, the Bruins can take solace in the fact that Chryst has been regressing this season.
The 6-foot-5 senior was expecting to have a big season for the Cardinal, but he’s been falling short of expectations. Now that he has very little confidence after two consecutive losses, he could be feeling his leash get tighter. That will play into the Bruins’ favor.
