4. The Razorbacks’ defense

Arkansas may have some serious problems on offense but one thing they don’t have is a bad defense. The Razorbacks may have lost to TCU but until the fourth quarter, the Hogs had a chance to clinch the victory. Why? Their defense.

It’s year one for defensive coordinator, Paul Rhoads at Arkansas. Obviously, it is very early but his work seems to be showing on the field for the Hogs. Along with a new coordinator, Arkansas also went to a 3-4 scheme defensively which has been working well.

As odd as it is, Arkansas’ strength lies within a completely new scheme by a new coordinator. The problem lies in the amount of time they will be on the field against a very talented A&M team.

Against TCU, the lack of offensive productivity flat out killed the defensive efforts. They may have lasted much longer than I thought they would, but in the end, the Razorbacks just couldn’t keep up the fight.

As we talked about already, however, Arkansas very well could have gotten the offense in a working condition. If the Razorbacks did, in fact, fix their offensive struggles, they could not only play well but finally get their Southwest Classic win.
