FSU Football: 3 Takeaways From Florida State’s Loss to NC State
Florida State football lost to NC State in James Blackman‘s debut. Can the Noles keep 2017 together on defense alone? Here are three takeaways from the loss.
The Seminoles just lost to the NC State Wolfpack and I can’t say I’m surprised. As someone who follows the ACC rather closely I didn’t have much faith in the FSU offense creating opportunities for an 18-year-old quarterback post-Dalvin Cook. FSU proved that their play calling isn’t fit to work around a young or weak passer. Jimbo Fisher needs an elite passer and that’s becoming apparent.
Blackman threw for 278 yards and on touchdown on 38 attempts. That’s a 7.3 yards per attempt average. 9.0+ yards per attempt is what you’d like to see from a college quarterback. Blackman isn’t there yet.
The Noles really went away from an easy gameplan. FSU ran for only 104 yards but on 4+ yards per carry. That means the Noles could’ve kept running Jacques Patrick and Cam Akers, picked up first downs, and kept to third and two instead of third and 10.
NC State passer Ryan Finley played the role of game manager with 230 yards and two touchdowns with no turnovers. Offensive production was hard to come by in general in this ACC contest with both teams passing for under 300 and rushing for under 150 yards. The inverse was the fact that Jaylen Samuels, the NC State half back, ran one touchdown and caught another which is what a good half back does. Now, here are three takeaways from Florida State’s loss to NC State.
