LSU Football: Tigers win, but Myles Brennan must start going forward
LSU football, under the stewardship of freshman quarterback Myles Brennan, survived a home scare against Syracuse. Here’s what we learned.
Heavy favorites, LSU edged Syracuse 35-26 to improve to 3-1. The Tigers looked frazzled and were without an offensive identity. It didn’t matter who was in at quarterback or who was carrying the football, there was something off about the Tigers performance on Saturday night.
Although it wasn’t pretty, good teams win games when they don’t play there best. LSU may or may not be one of those good teams, but they did win the game, and that’s what matters. There’s more football left to be played before we truly understand what this team is going to be.
Yet, there were three things that did become crystal clear about LSU in their win over Syracuse in Week 4.
3. Syracuse was okay, which is bad news for LSU
LSU entered this game as the No. 25 team in the nation. That was the fourth best mark in the SEC West, trailing No. 1 Alabama, No. 15 Auburn and No. 17 Mississippi State. The Tigers were thoroughly dominated by the Bulldogs and still have games ahead against those aforementioned teams as well as Florida and Tennessee.
The expectations in Baton Rouge are through the roof. Les Miles took this team to a national championship and filled the roster with talent. This is not supposed to be a team that is in one score games against Syracuse. If they struggled this mightily against the Orange is there any confidence they’ll be able to challenge the SEC elite?
