Virginia Tech football is off to a 4-0 start after a shutout victory of the Old Dominion Monarchs. Here are three takeaways from their 38-0 victory.

The Hokies’ offense sputtered a bit in the first half, unable to score their first touchdown of the game until there was 6:07 remaining in the second quarter. An interception forced by cornerback Divine Deablo quickly turned into a touchdown for the Hokies, but they made it interesting early.

Wide receiver Cam Phillips had six receptions for 102 receiving yards in the first half but was held scoreless. The Monarchs kept two defenders on Phillips all game long, making his life difficult in Week 4.

The Virginia Tech Hokies still found a way to get a victory, although they got off to a rather sluggish start. Kicker Joey Slye missed an easy field goal in the early going but bounced back to put Virginia Tech up 3-0 in the first quarter.

Virginia Tech would pull away in the second half and cruise to a 38-0 victory. Here are three takeaways from the victory.
