Miami Football: 5 players who earned game balls vs. Toledo
Homer stepped in after Walton was injured and was the go-to guy for Rosier and the offense. Miami didn’t miss a beat when Homer took over and he showed great skill not only running the ball but as a receiver. Homer only carried the ball eight times and gained 32 yards on the ground, two of those carries found the endzone for Miami. He also contributed three receptions for 46 yards.
Walton is the clear number one back for the Hurricanes but Homer has separated himself from the remaining backs. Homer had a solid game in Week 1 in the game against Bethune-Cookman with 108 yards rushing in extended action. With the projected workload that Walton is looking at, it may be a good idea for Miami to keep Homer involved consistently as well.
At 5-foot-11 and 195 pounds, Homer isn’t a big back but has good strength for his size. His style is a great compliment to Walton and obviously the Hurricanes’ coaching staff has great confidence in Homer. For the second straight game Homer had a solid outing, if he continues to produce he will likely see an increased role as the season moves forward. For Miami to be in the ACC mix in the long haul they will need to have a solid running game with Walton and Homer leading the way.
