2. Notre Dame is a national title contender

The brakes need to be pumped so hard on this one that they should go through the bottom of whatever bandwagon is being driven to support this overreaction. There are people out there who truly believe that the victory over Michigan State proves the Irish are national title-worthy.

That’s not the case just yet. Albeit it was an impressive road victory for Notre Dame to improve to 3-1 on the year, it was still one against a young Michigan State team which finished 3-9 last year. Granted, the Spartans are two years removed from their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance, but this is the youngest team Mark Dantonio has ever coached.

Not just that, but the Spartans actually out-gained the Fighting Irish by nearly 150 yards. A lot of these yards came in overtime, but it showed that the Fighting Irish took advantage of Michigan State’s offensive mistakes (three turnovers) and turned them into easy points.

Pump the brakes on this one, people. Notre Dame still has a lot to prove in order to be considered a serious national title threat.
