Penn State Football: 5 players who earned game balls vs. Iowa
By Zach Bigalke
This list would not be complete without the man who snagged the final catch of the game that iced victory for Penn State. Juwan Johnson was Trace McSorley’s second-favorite target on Saturday, hauling in seven passes for 92 yards. No catch was bigger, though, than the pressure-packed haul to win the contest on the road.
McSorley audibled at the line as the final seconds ticked away. Snapping the ball just before time expired, McSorley stepped back and cocked his arm. With receivers streaking toward the endzone, the quarterback threw a perfectly weighted ball that Johnson caught in stride. His seventh reception was the most critical, as it cut off Iowa’s upset bid at the last chance.
The touchdown catch was the first of Johnson’s college career, and it could not have come at a more critical time for the Nittany Lions. After playing in the shadow of other Penn State receivers, Johnson broke out in the first big statement game of his burgeoning career. For his efforts, Johnson did more than enough to snag one of the game balls this week for the Big Ten favorites.
