Week 4 in the SEC football action seemed to firmly establish that the top teams in the West and the East are Alabama and Georgia. But where does the rest of the conference sit?
If there is one lesson that could have been learned in week four of SEC football, it’s that you do not openly challenge Alabama. Vanderbilt learned this the hard way after they were obliterated by a score of 59-0.
The Crimson Tide defense only allowed 78 yards in the entire game. Even more impressive than shutting down the Commodore offense, was the Alabama offense. The Vanderbilt defense is one of the best in the nation. But you wouldn’t have known that yesterday. Alabama looked to have some troubles against Colorado State last week, but whatever they were, were not visible against Vanderbilt.
What we thought would be the best game of the week in the SEC, turned into a blowout in favor of Georgia. The Bulldogs did what LSU could not, which was to corral Nick Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald isn’t a passer first, he’s a runner. Take that away and he’s ineffective. That’s exactly what Georgia did and why they won in blowout fashion. That flea flicker to begin the game was beautiful.
For the rest of the SEC, fans were treated to really close games. Kentucky-Florida, Tennessee-UMass, LSU-Syracuse and Texas A&M-Arkansas were all decided by nine points or less.
And now we dive into the rankings, beginning with perennial No. 14 team, Missouri.
