Which players had big performances in Week 4 for Virginia Tech football in their win over Old Dominion?

The Virginia Tech Hokies are 4-0 entering their big matchup with the second-ranked Clemson Tigers in Week 5. They’ve moved up to No. 12 in the AP Poll themselves.

However, before looking ahead, we take a look at the top performers from Week 4’s 38-0 shutout victory over the Old Dominion Monarchs. The Hokies pitched their second shutout victory of the season for the first time since the 2006 season.

The Hokies put up just three points in the first quarter, but turned things up a notch for the rest of the contest, leading 17-0 by halftime. Strong performances on the offense and defense kept Virginia Tech undefeated and looking sharp entering ACC play.

Running back Steven Peoples had himself quite the day for the Virginia Tech Hokies offense. Peoples had three scores for the offense, two coming in the first half, in the route of Old Dominion.

Peoples had three receptions for 73 receiving yards and 13 carries for 63 rushing yards in the route. The junior running back is finding his groove entering his third season with the squad. He caught two touchdown passes and ran for a one-yard touchdown to lead the way for Virginia Tech’s offense.

He is beginning to find his place on an offense that has had to reload at key positions on the field. Surprisingly, he’s currently third on the team in rushing yards this season (133) but leads the team in carries (36).

Peoples snap count should go up in Week 5 after catching more receiving yards in one game than he did in the previous two seasons. He started in the team’s season opener against West Virginia but played as a reserve in the previous three games.
