Trace McSorely, more than a spoke in the wheel

When Penn State started the season, the focus on the offense was obviously Saquon Barkley and rightfully so. However, if Penn State wanted to rise to the next level and assure the nation and even themselves that 2017 was not a fluke, their quarterback had to raise his level of play as well. Late Saturday night, Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley showed that he is the real deal.

Everything that Saquon Barkley and McSorley could’ve done against Iowa last night was countered by the scrappy underdogs at home in front of crazy crowd. However, when it came down to it. When Penn State needed the drive to save their conference and title hope, McSorley was the man to get it done.

As Iowa scored late in the game, McSorley took Penn State on a surely to be legendary march that got Penn State inside the Iowa 10-yard line with little time remaining. With 4 seconds left, McSorley saved the Penn State season and put himself into Penn State lore forever. A seven yard touchdown pass as time expired to defeat Iowa 21-19

What is so amazing about that play in that game and in that moment is that eventually, they’re going to need McSorley to come up big again. Penn State has Michigan at home and a trip to Ohio State, if they want to be anywhere near a conference or national title, McSorley’s going to be just as important as Barkley down the stretch.
