Arkansas Football: Hogs can recover from TAMU loss against New Mexico State
Just one week after losing to the Texas A&M Aggies, 50-43, Arkansas football can take out their frustrations on New Mexico State.
The Arkansas football program experienced a heartbreaking loss over the weekend as they barely fell short to SEC West rival, the Texas A&M Aggies, in overtime. Arkansas quarterback Austin Allen and Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond went back and forth as each tossed two touchdowns and one interception.
Ultimately, the Aggie run game proved to be too much for the Hogs. Mond and former Oklahoma transfer running back Keith Ford both went over 100 rushing yards and combined for two touchdowns. Trayveon Williams added on another 72 yards and one touchdown.
Some good news for Arkansas comes in the form of possibly finding a permanent starting running back. True freshman Chase Hayden is starting to take over as sophomore running back Devwah Whaley is quickly losing his starting role. Hayden got the bulk of the carries with 77 rushing yards on 13 attempts and one touchdown.
Senior running back David Williams tacked on another 68 rushing yards and two scores. Williams showed his versatility with 28 receiving yards and one score as well. Hayden and Williams will lead the way for Arkansas moving forward.
In Week 5, the Hogs head back home to Fayetteville, AR, and Razorback Stadium to host the New Mexico State Aggies. There’s one more non-conference game on tap for the Hogs after the New Mexico State game when they face the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.
New Mexico State enters this matchup with a 2-2 (0-1 Sun Belt) record. Meanwhile, Arkansas enters with a 1-2 (0-1 SEC) record. Head coach Bret Bielema needs to see his team win this one comfortably to get some momentum going in the right direction. Also, it would not hurt if the Hogs can get bowl eligible by taking advantage of inferior opponents.

Arkansas enters as a 17-point favorite and could end up running away with this one. New Mexico State has now allowed a 100-yard rusher against them yet this year. The Hogs are a good candidate to have the first one.
