Texas Football: 3 bold predictions vs. Iowa State in Week 5
Texas football could use a big start to Big 12 play this weekend as it takes on the Iowa State Cyclones in Week 5.
The Texas Longhorns got the week off to prepare for their Big 12 opener against the Iowa State Cyclones. Texas last played against the USC Trojans, to the tune of a heartbreaking overtime loss at The Coliseum. However, the loss signified some major improvements for the Horns.
First-year head coach Tom Herman has had much better preparation levels for the Horns since their season opening loss to the Maryland Terrapins. Since that loss to Maryland, the Horns nearly defeated USC on the road and handled the San Jose State Spartans at home.
They do get an easier Big 12 opener in Iowa State to kick things off. Iowa State nearly defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes in their only loss of the season. They’ve also defeated the Northern Iowa Panthers, out of the FCS, and the Akron Zips.
This will be possibly Iowa State’s biggest challenge of the season so far. It’s too early to tell if Texas is in fact better than the Hawkeyes. Last year, the Clones fell short to the Horns at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, 27-6.
Texas opens as a six-point favorite on the road. Yet, the last time that Texas visited Ames, under former head coach Charlie Strong, the Horns were shutout. This is a new Texas football program that seems to have a renewed fighting spirit. Meanwhile, Iowa State is looking to make some measurable progress under second-year head coach Matt Campbell.
Now, let’s take a look at 3 bold predictions for the Texas Longhorns vs. Iowa State Cyclones in Week 5.
