Baylor may have lost more than its offense can replace with starting receiver Chris Platt missing the rest of the 2017 season.

The Baylor Bears were dealt a devastating blow this week when it was announced that wide receiver Chris Platt would miss the rest of the season due to an injury to his left knee. It was the second player that Baylor found out they would be without for the rest of the season this week. Defensive end Xavier Jones will also miss the rest of the year with a broken bone in his foot, according to ESPN.

Baylor is already shorthanded on offense after losing some of their key running backs for a few weeks early in the season. The departure of star receiver K.D. Cannon has also hurt the Bears on offense. Good news is that sophomore quarterback Zach Smith is making measurable strides since he was named the starter in place of Arizona transfer quarterback Anu Solomon.

We’ll see what the Baylor offense looks like without Platt for the first time this week against the Kansas State Wildcats. The start of Big 12 play has not been easy for the Bears. Last week, they came up just short against a top 3 team in the Oklahoma Sooners.

Baylor’s next three games even after Kansas State are against the Oklahoma State Cowboys, West Virginia Mountaineers, and Texas Longhorns. This was not a good time for the Bears to lose one of their biggest weapons. Yet, there’s never really a good time for that to happen.

Now, let’s take a look at three reasons the Baylor offense will not be fine without wide receiver Chris Platt for the rest of the 2017 campaign.
