Clemson Football: 3 bold predictions vs. Virginia Tech in Week 5
Clemson football could get a big boost entering the bulk of their ACC slate by defeating the Virginia Tech Hokies in Week 5.
The No. 2 ranked Clemson Tigers seem to be in the headlines every week for big matchups. And they continue to win those big games. Clemson first defeated the No. 13 Auburn Tigers at Clemson Memorial Stadium. Then, they defeated the No. 17 Louisville Cardinals at Papa Johns Stadium.
This week, Clemson travels to Blacksburg, VA, to face the No. 12 Virginia Tech Hokies at Lane Stadium. It’s the first time that Virginia Tech has a challenge in terms of a tough cross-conference opponent this year. With the downfall of the Florida State Seminoles and domination of Louisville, Virginia Tech might be Clemson’s biggest challenger in the ACC.
Last week, Clemson pulled away from the Boston College Eagles after being put on upset alert in the first half with a 34-7 victory. Meanwhile, Virginia Tech notched a victory against a third straight easy opponent in the Old Dominion Monarchs. The two weeks before saw the Hokies defeat the Delaware Blue Hens out of the FCS and the East Carolina Pirates.
The head coaching battle in this game will be very interesting to watch. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney is coming off his first National Championship and looks to return to the title game for the third straight year. Meanwhile, Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente is looking to improve the Hokies in his second year with the team.
Chances are that this game is one of the closer and most entertaining of the weekend. ESPN’s College Gameday is headed to Blacksburg for this matchup. The last time these two teams met was in the 2016 ACC Championship Game, where Clemson emerged victorious.
Now, let’s take a look at three bold predictions for the Clemson Tigers vs. Virginia Tech Hokies in Week 5.
