Arkansas Football: 5 reasons Hogs will defeat NMSU

Arkansas football will try for its second victory of the season in Week 5, at home in Razorback Stadium, against the New Mexico State Aggies.

There are two more non-conference opponents on tap for Arkansas football in 2017. In Week 5, they face the New Mexico State Aggies from the Mountain West. Later in the season, they take on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers from the Sun Belt.

Arkansas could use a win this weekend more than almost any other team in the SEC. In Week 4, the Hogs fell just short, in overtime, against the Texas A&M Aggies in their SEC opener. In the blink of an eye, Arkansas as fallen to 1-2 on the season.

If they want to make a bowl game, the Hogs need to start building some momentum from this matchup with New Mexico State. Another big one is waiting on the horizon for the Hogs on Oct. 7 against the South Carolina Gamecocks, The toughest game of the season is in two weeks against the No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Arkansas could fall to the bottom of the SEC West very quickly as this is an unforgiving divison.

None of the teams in the SEC West are a cakewalk this year. Even the Ole Miss Rebels, who are not eligible for a bowl game, are a good team behind the leadership of sophomore quarterback Shea Patterson.

Head coach Bret Bielema normally prepares the Hogs well against Group of Five competition. Arkansas is one of the few SEC teams still going through non-conference play.
