2. Miami will be out-coached

It’s been a while since Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly has been given the nod in the coaching matchup, but he has improved significantly over the course of this year. It’s well known at this point that Kelly had met with each and every one of his players last season to see just what went wrong, and it’s clearly paying dividends.

Kelly has also done a better job of delegating, turning over playcalling to offensive guru Chip Long. This change in assignment allows Kelly to focus on the bigger picture things, something that has been sorely needed. Defensive coordinator Mike Elko has also thrived with a defense that has completely bought into his gameplan.

In addition to the changes around him, Kelly has been able to improve his own coaching as well. The majority of attacks against him last year came on the basis of adjustments. Last season the Irish would find themselves down going into the locker room at half-time just to emerge in the second half doing the exact same things. This year, the Irish have been an explosive second half team, further testifying to the improvement of Notre Dame’s coaching staff.

Miami’s coaching staff hasn’t been particularly poor this season, but they simply don’t have the firepower to work with like Kelly and his group does.
