4. The KJ Costello era may have just begun

David Shaw has yet to name a starter for Saturday’s game at Arizona State, which might come as a surprise to those who once believed Keller Chryst was the answer. Well, Chryst suffered an injury early in the game against UCLA and KJ Costello came in to replace him.

The sophomore quarterback played exceptionally well and fans were already clamoring for him to take the starting job from Chryst, a senior. Moreover, many have dubbed this now the Costello era. He may not officially be the starter — yet — for Saturday’s game, but he is listed as an OR for the No. 1 job on the depth chart with Chryst.

If Costello does start, the Cardinal offense will be much more effective and teams won’t have to stack the box to stop the run. Costello is a true threat to sling the ball around 20-30 times per game and reach 300 yards on a regular basis.

Could he finally get his first start with Stanford after going 18-for-28 with 203 yards and two touchdowns and running another one in vs. UCLA? It’s likely, and if he does, Arizona State is in big trouble.
