Arkansas Football: 3 Takeaways from Razorbacks win over NMSU
3. The Arkansas defense is not good
I said earlier in the season that Arkansas’ defense looked solid. I was wrong. The Razorbacks defense is not only very unsolid but they are really not good. What are the main issues?
Everything. In order for a defense to create a problem for a passing play, they have to start at the line. The defensive line has to get pressure on a quarterback and Arkansas, quite frankly, is failing miserably.
Aggie’s quarterback Tyler Rogers had all day to throw against the Razorbacks. When they did start to apply pressure, the senior quarterback would escape due to two factors. First off, he is elusive and I won’t take away from him. Additionally, the Hog’s were completely unable to contain a mobile quarterback.
Pressuring the passer is a must to help the secondary but you can’t help someone who won’t help themselves. Arkansas’ secondary got scorched non-stop. Rogers hung 344 yards on the Razorbacks with absolute ease.
Had the Aggies had a better effort on defense and not had a couple of mistakes, it would have been a much closer game. To put it bluntly, Arkansas has been exposed defensively. This doesn’t bode well for Bielema and his Hogs for the upcoming SEC play.
