College GameDay is in Blacksburg for Week 5. Let’s check out how the Virginia Tech fans did with their College GameDay signs.

GameDay is just better when they are in a place that lives and dies on college football. ESPN spent all show last week telling us, “No guys, New York really is a great college football town.” It may be underrated in that respect. However, when you go to a place like Blacksburg, Virginia, you see what that really means. The energy jumps off the screen. The sea of College GameDay signs isn’t a bad indicator either.

Hokies fans had a decade to get hyped for this College GameDay as well.  Somewhat inexplicably, the show had not been to Blacksburg since the season opener in 2007. Virginia Tech has hosted the show six times, but half of those were when Mike Vick was still torching defenses in a Hokies uniform.

No. 2 Clemson has a lot of material for fans to go after with a GameDay sign. But, how many jokes are there left to be made? College GameDay has treated them like they are the Grateful Dead and Rece Davis and the gang are the world’s biggest Deadheads. Clemson is tied with Alabama with eight appearances in the last 42 shows. The Tigers were last on GameDay two weeks ago when they played at Louisville.

Here are some of the best signs of the week:

The only thing I’m glad they brought from Times Square and a shot at Tiger and the Tigers in the middle.

Bonus points for bringing the dog.

Somebody don’t know ’bout Lil Dicky.

This is probably the best week for College GameDay signs so far. Be sure to come back for Lee Corso’s 299th headgear selection. He hasn’t gotten one right since Week 1 but has never been wrong about a Virginia Tech game.
